I do 95% of my striping during the day is it worth it for me to get a laser being I am working in sunlight

  • #2
It works very well in the sun. Take slightly longer than at night because you have to move the shadow box. 20 seconds to move to the next line. You have to stripe a little differently than normal because you want to be painting in the direction of the sun so the laser shows up in the shadow box. We use it all the time during the day without any issues.

I am not sure what comes with the LazerGuide2000. I only bought the laser nothing else.

We've used ours during the day as well. I dont know why I didn't get it sooner.

make sure you get the new mount that puts the laser up near the handlebars. it makes seeing the lazer so much better in the day. i used to have to get my helper to cast a shadow in the box so i could see it. with the new mount i can see it even if the sun is over my shoulder.

Getting ready to order another machine with AL. Not sure about the laser. Have any of you used it in very hilly lots (striping side of hill)? I have one we made and it works great on flat lots but not worth a damn on side of hill using shadow box. I can make a better line by just connecting the dots placed about 1/2 way into a stall.

Scott (or Anyone else) know if that new upper mount would work (or fit) on a Version 4 model?

It does not fit the LL4 or older. We just picked up the new LL5 with laser 2000 pkg and made a mount for our LL4's. Was very easy and cheap. We mounted the holding bar we made on the LL 4 and use the same sliding bar with post that came with the new pkg moving from one machine to the other. It would be easy to fab but I just don't need it as making a wire plug assy to fit on the mount arm so can easy move from machine to machine. We will power with driver battery rather than machine battery as my older machines don't have a battery. The new LL 5 did come with a battery as it operates the guns.
Graco has a extended post that will mount on the gun mount post and raise the laser up high. I was concerned about how stable it would be so made one to mount on handle bars.

I have not seen any mounts for the LL4 or LL3. I have made a mount for the LL3. Working on one for a LL4

I saw the Titan laser today at World of Asphalt. Was on a swinging holder which was odd. Anyone know about a setup like that? Supposedly when the machine would go over any type of swell the laser would pivot. I’m still confused about it.

I looked at that laser. They have lots of R&D to do before I think it needs to be placed on the market . I looked into their line driver though and really like the way they have implemented a way to off set the seat . We had a really good conversation with their Rep Tom Heine and it’s obvious that they want to develope a highly competitive machine. Id like to get my hands on one of those and put a couple gallons of paint on the ground to really get a good comparison to Graco

I tried to talk to this guy about the laser a couple months ago. I asked him about the heat sink and the duty cycle for the unit and couldnt answer anything about it. Its the guy from american striping Dan something.
